Questions Answered

Congratulations all our efforts have been rewarded. BT have set a date for upgrading the Seighford Exchange. From the 10th of November 2004 Broadband will be available.

How can I help ?

By pre-registering your interest in Broad Band.

How much will this cost me ?

It will cost you nothing to pre-register.

Why pre-register then ?

BT will not enable the telephone exchange for broadband access until it receives a minimum of 200 pre-registrations. The graph at the top shows how many people have already registered.

When this number is reached BT will contact all the people that pre-registered.

If at least 25 % of these people want to use broadband internet and telephone services then the exchange will be enabled for everyone to use when they are ready.

How do I pre-register ?

If you want to help get broadband enabled in your local area, you need to register at one of several broadband suppliers (details below).

Alternatively you can email your name, telephone number and postcode to register@bb4rsgb.org.uk and it can be done for you. (Details will not be held in any database or used for any purpose other then pre-registration for broadband)

Where does my local area cover ?

The local area that this campaign covers is Ranton, Seighford and Great Bridgeford. All phone numbers that start (01785) 282xxx are connected to the seighford exchange. Using one of the pre-registration sites below will confirm this. There may be other phone numbers that are connected to this exchange, if you know of one please let us know.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of ADSL?

A non-exhaustive list is as follows:

Advantages Disadvantages
  • High speed "always on" connection
  • Fixed monthly cost
  • Great value for money
  • Competitive modem & router prices
  • Not available to everybody (approx. 81% household coverage - October 2003)
  • Contended service could result in variable speeds depending upon time of day
  • Possible teething troubles for new or inexperienced customers.

Who created this web site ?

This web site has been created by residents of the local area who want to get broadband enabled in the local telephone exchange. No business or other interest is involved and we will make no money from doing this. Email us if you want to find out more..
